Recently, I had the unexpected pleasure of participating in an art contest, an experience that left me both honored and humbled. For me, photography has always been a deeply personal expression– a way to connect with the world around me and share my perspective with others. I never considered submitting my work to a contest, but was gently guided by my close friend, Susan Buice. After toying with the idea I took a chance on myself.

I was completely taken aback to find out that I placed first in the photography category for the second annual Cherokee Magazine Art Contest. I am grateful to Cherokee Magazine and the judges for selecting my photograph as it is extremely personal to me. I’m not sure that I’ll ever do an art contest again, but it did give me the confidence boost I needed.

You can join me on Friday, March 15th at the Cherokee County History Center at 5:30pm to see my work. My photograph will be on display through April 15th.
